Hopedale Medical Complex Announces Management Promotions

 Hopedale, Illinois-August 12, 2015- The Hopedale Medical Foundation Board of Directors recently approved a re-organization of its management staff. The changes, which took effect in July, 2015, are part of a new strategic plan which is designed to promote better communication and work-flow within the 60 year old non-profit organization.

Mark Rossi, the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel, was named the new President and COO. Mr. Rossi will continue to report directly to the CEO and Board Chairman, Dr. Alfred Rossi. Mr. Rossi has been employed with HMC for the past 15 years and resides in Hopedale with his wife, Marla. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Illinois Wesleyan University, and a law degree from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. Mr. Rossi was recently named the President of the non-profit Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network and assumed those duties on July 23, 2015.

Emily Whitson, MS, ATC, has been named the Vice President of Clinical Operations. Ms. Whitson is the current Director of Physical Therapy and has been employed with HMC since 2005. In her new role, Ms. Whitson will oversee all managers of clinical operations and report directly to the President/COO. Whitson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from Southwest Baptist University and a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from Indiana State University. She will continue to manage the Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Department and work as an Athletic Trainer with local high schools. Ms. Whitson and husband, Joe, have two children (ages 7 & 5) and reside in Mackinaw.

Andrea “Andie” Halley, MBA, CHC, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, has been appointed the new Vice President of Non-Clinical Operations/Corporate Compliance Officer. Halley currently serves as Director of Human Resources and Corporate Compliance Officer, and has been employed with HMC since 2008. She will oversee all managers of non-clinical operations and will report directly to the President/COO. Halley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Iowa State University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from University of Southern Indiana. She resides in Atlanta with husband, Shawn, and two sons (ages 10 & 6).

Melody Cowdrey has been named Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management. Ms. Cowdrey will continue to oversee medical records, Admitting and Registration, as well as the managers of hospital and physician billing. Cowdrey will report to the new CFO. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Columbia College and has been employed with HMC since 2012. Ms. Cowdrey and her husband, Bruce, reside in Dunlap.

Kimberly “Kim” Barman, MS, ACSM-RCER, has been named Vice President of Community Health & Wellness, which reports to the President/COO. Ms. Barman will manage wellness operations and oversee community health programs. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) and a Master of Science in Exercise and Health Studies from Miami University. She returned to HMC in April 2015 and previously served as the Director of Wellness & Cardiac Rehab in the Wellness Center from 2002-2007. Barman resides with her husband, Marty, in Bloomington.

Timothy “Tim” Sondag, RN, BSN, has been named Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer, where he will be responsible for the oversight and coordination of all of HMC’s nursing operations. Sondag, currently the DON of the hospital and nursing home, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from OSF College of Nursing, where he is currently enrolled in the Master of Nursing Program. He has been employed with HMC since 2005 and resides in Manito with his 2 sons. Mr. Sondag is the Village of Manito’s Mayor.

Nicholas “Nick” Penn, CPA, has been named HMC’s Interim Chief Financial Officer. Penn will manage and oversee all financial departments of HMC, as well as financial planning and reporting.  Mr. Penn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Bradley University and expects to graduate with a Master of Business Administration degree from Illinois State University in May, 2016. He is a Marine Corps Veteran, where he served 5 years as an electrician for F-18 fighter jets. Mr. Penn and his wife, Jackie, reside in Mapleton with their 4 children (ages 13, 11 and twin 7 years olds).
