Hopedale Medical Complex's full-time medical staff includes three board certified surgeons, a board certified anesthesiologist, and a comprehensive surgical team. Combined, this team has over 125 years of experience in the operating room.
The modern surgical suites at HMC provide our surgeons with the ability to perform both major surgery and minor outpatient procedures in a sterile, secure environment. Our patients and families enjoy outstanding medical care coupled with compassionate personal attention—without the hassle of driving to large medical centers or busy surgi-centers.
HMC’s Surgical Department includes four technologically advanced operating suites, including an endoscopy lab, angiography suite, and special procedures room. Surgery is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, unlike most smaller hospitals.

HMC has a state-of-the-art special procedures suite where advanced endovascular (also known as angiographic) therapeutic procedures, such as a balloon angioplasty and stents, are performed. These procedures are minimally invasive and require less time in the hospital than traditional surgical procedures.

When You Have Surgery:
Prior to having any surgery, a surgery nurse and physician will visit with you in person to introduce him/herself and explain your procedure and anesthesia as well as answer any questions you or your family may have. Discussion of anesthesia and possible complications is done by our experienced Anesthesiologist. (HMC uses exclusively medical doctors, not CRNAs (nurse anesthetists), in our Operating Room.)
Our goal is to alleviate your anxiety surrounding your upcoming surgical experience by providing pre-operative education. Before surgery, you will be asked to come in for pre-admission testing. Your physician may ask for an EKG, blood work, chest x-rays, etc. You will then be prepared for surgery and given information before, during, and after your surgery, including a discharge plan of care.
