For CURRENT Group Swim Lessons


Level Descriptions (Final level placements will be made at the decision of the Instructors)

Parent & Tot (6 months – 18 months)

This program is designed to develop the child’s comfort in the water and readiness to learn more advance water skills.  Parents work one-on-one with their child in the water to learn front kicks, prone glides, under water exploration, rolling over, and holding positions.

Parent and Gold Fish (19 months – 48 months)

This program is designed to develop the child’s comfort in the water and readiness to learn more advance water skills.  Parents work one-on-one with their child in the water to learn front kicks, prone glides, under water exploration, rolling over, and holding positions.

Level 1

This level is designed to develop the child’s comfort in the water and readiness to learn more advance skills.  In  this level, children will work on putting face in the water for 3 seconds, floating face up and face down for 3 seconds (with support), and leaving the side of the pool, either walking or doggy paddle and return.  *If child can do all of these skills  comfortably and correctly, the need to be enrolled in level 2. 

Level 2

This level is designed to continue the child’s progress in swim development. The child will work on unsupported floating on the front and the back for 5 seconds, jumping into water return to side, and swim on front and back 5 yards using their arms and legs.  *If child can do all of these skills comfortably and correctly, they need to enrolled in level 3. 

Level 3

In this level the child will graduate to swimming freestyle and back stroke across the pool while taking breaths; jump into deep water; will learn the elementary back stroke kick; and will learn the skills of treading water.  *If child can do all of these skills comfortably and correctly, they need to enrolled in level 4.

Level 4

This level will work on the child ‘s rotary breathing skills and increase their swim distance to 25 yards for freestyle and backstroke.  Additionally they will work on the elementary back stroke, breast stroke kick, side stroke kick, and tread water for 2 minutes.  *If child can do all of these skills comfortably and correctly, they need to enrolled in level 5.

Level 5

In this level participants will work on their existing skills , while increasing their distances, while learning new skills.   In this level the participants will be expected to swim 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke, breast stroke and side stoke across the pool and swim 25 yards of elementary back stroke.  Additionally, they will learn the butterfly kick and open turns, as well tread water for 3 minutes.  *If child can do all of these skills comfortably and correctly, they need to enrolled in level 6.

Level 6

In this level participants will work to swim 100 yards freestyle, 100 yards back stroke, 25 yards of breast stroke, 25 yards of side stroke and butterfly across the pool.  They will also strive to tread water for 3 minutes and work on flip turns and 2 hand turns.  *If child can do all of these skills comfortably and correctly, they need to enrolled in level 7.

Level 7

In this level participants will work to swim 200 yards freestyle, 200 yards back stroke, 50 yards of breast stroke, 50 yards of side stroke and 25 yards of butterfly.  They will also strive to tread water for 4 minutes and work on back flip turns and swimming under water for 15 yards.

Sink or Swim

This class is for youth entering 6th-10th grades.  It is designed to prepare the students getting ready for swim curriculum in the middle and high school levels.  This class will focus on ensuring the older youth are comfortable in the water, and get some experience with3 basic strokes and water skills, without having the younger children in their class.  Boys and girls will have separate class times.  All skill levels will meet at the same time, but may work separately for pare of the class, and come together at the end for some fun.

Stroke Clinic

This program is great for those who are working on their endurance and their technique in preparation for the swim team season.  All participants of this class must be able to swim 25 years of each stroke correctly, with correct breathing rhythms and without stopping.
